Teach The Teacher Tuesday

Allergies are on the rise. There’s no doubt that teachers and LSO’s are encountering more students that have severe allergies like asthma and anaphylaxis in the classrooms they teach. In fact, did you know that on average, there are 3 children with diagnosed asthma in every classroom? (Asthma Australian 2022). Furthermore, the DET recorded that 80% of all Victorian Government schools have students enrolled that are anaphylactic.

Considering these statistics, we would like to share some FREE Professional Learning opportunities to our educators to help them feel prepared in the highly likely chance that they are working in a classroom with a student who has asthma or anaphylaxis.

The free online modules for anaphylaxis and asthma are:

Anaphylaxis e-training Schools Victoria:

This website has a free online course to help refresh and provide updated knowledge and practices on anaphylaxis management.

Asthma Online

Again a free short course that provides an important and practical information about asthma management.

Both online courses require you to create an account, provide you with a certificate of completion, and the hours spent on this training can be lodged towards the required Professional Development hours to renew your VIT.

Although it is not necessary for Teaching Initiative CRT’s or LSO’s to have this training, it is certainly strongly recommended, and could become a requirement for some schools in the near future. But above all else, it’s peace of mind that in the event a student does present with severe asthma or an anaphylactic reaction, you will be prepared with the knowledge of how to best respond.
